When we interact with someone, we often connect with them energetically. When we are around someone a lot - whether that's at work, at home, in a relationship, etc. - that connection can grow stronger. Often, this is a good thing. However, if for whatever reason we need to cut that person off from our lives, those energetic connections can still remain. Whether it's an ex-lover, old boss, or friend who has wronged you one too many times, it is always best to make sure you sever the energetic cords as well as any physical ties you have to a person. Not only will it protect your own energy, but it will make the healing process much easier. Below is a simple cord cutting spell to help you do just that.
You Will Need:
2 pieces of string, yarn, or ribbon (about 12–18 inches each)
2 white or black candles
1 pair of scissors
A small bowl of salt water
A small pin
To Perform:
First, make sure you set your intention clearly. You can say something along the lines of:
“I release myself from [name], with peace and love. What no longer serves me is gone.”
Take the two strings and loosely knot them together in the middle. Let each half fall to opposite sides. One side (cord) represents you, the other represents the person you’re cutting ties with.
Using the small pin, etch your name into one of the candles, and the name of the other person on the other candle. Tie the cord which represents you around the candle with your name etched into it, and the cord that represents the other person around the other persons candle. The candles should now be connected via the cord.
Light the candles. Sit quietly, close your eyes, and visualize the energetic cord that connects you to this person — see it running between your hearts or energy fields.
Place your hands over the knotted section of the string. Whisper:
“This knot holds what binds us. I now choose release.”
When you feel ready, slowly take the scissors and cut through the knot. As you do, say with intention:
“I cut the cord between myself and [name].
With love, with peace, with freedom, it is done.”
Visualise the energetic cord breaking, dissolving into nothingness, completely separating the two of you from one another.
Dip your half of the string into the bowl of salt water to cleanse and neutralize any lingering energy. Whisper:
“I am free. I am whole. I am clear.”
Keep your half of the string if you wish as a reminder of freedom, or bury it in the earth to ground the energy.
The other half (representing the person) can be thrown away, buried separately, or placed in running water if accessible, with gratitude and release.
