Amber is a biological product of nature, and is fossilized tree resin, most often from pine trees. As such, it has a strong connection to the Earth and the Sun. the most common colour of Amber is a rich orange, emphasizing its connection with the sun. Because of its colouring it is also often associated with the solar plexus and sacral chakras. However, it can also be found in a green colour, and a blue colour which is considered a rarity and is highly sought after.
As the tree sap gardens into Amber it often takes on an almost real-life form, like a droplet. It has been associated both with the preservation of life, with insects often being found perfectly intact having become trapped in the sticky sap and encased for many years (we've all seen Jurassic Park right!?), and with loneliness and grieving. It was often placed in tombs and used in ancient funeral rites.
Amber is a powerful healer and has been used widely for a number of different purposes. As a natural purifier it draws negativity and illness out from the body and aids in tissue regeneration. It is also said to be great at helping to soothe and heal mental health issues.
As well as a healer of negativity and illness, it is also seen as a protector against certain ailments. In ancient cultures it was made into beads and strung around the neck of children to protect them, and also ease teething pains (although please note, it should never be put in the mouth). It was also ground down into a powder, mixed with water, oil or honey and used to cure deafness, poor eyesight, epilepsy, stomach ache, asthma, gout, fever, rheumatism, wounds and infections and even the plague!
