Obsidian:

There are several different types of obsidian. Generally obsidian is black, but you can also find snowflake obsidian (black with white flecks - read more about it at my post here), blue obsidian, obsidian with a gold or silver sheen, and red snowflake obsidian (to name just some).

Obsidian is a volcanic glass. It is often used in scrying thanks to its dark, reflective surface. It is also associated with protection, grounding and centering, and relieving mental stress. These qualities can help bring clarity, an assured sense of self, and the ability to think rationally and objectively about situations. Below is a brief look at the other types of obsidian, and additional associations they have thanks to their individual qualities:

Blue Obsidian - Communication, especially in heated situations

Snowflake Obsidian - A soothing crystal; whilst I feel that obsidian has quite a masculine energy, snowflake obsidian feels quite feminine to me. Can help us reflect, overcome, and learn from our mistakes.

Gold/Silver Sheen Obsidian - Confidence, courage, will, strength, and determination

Red Snowflake Obsidian - Grounding and balance

Picture
Onyx:

Onyx is a stone of strength. It can bring us stamina and encourage us to push through and stay the course in the face of difficult situations. It can help us practice self-discipline and self-control, and aid us in decision making.

Onyx is also good for grounding and protection, and is also said to promote luck and success.

Picture
Opal:

Opal has the ability to help promote and enhance our existing characteristics, quirks, motivations, and dreams. It can help us 'sparkle', feeling more confident and comfortable in ourselves, and push ourselves to be the best that we can be.

Picture
Opalite:

Opalite should not be confused with opal. Opalite is essentially coloured glass. It is believed that opalite can be used in healing as the opalescent colouring can help raise our vibrations. I'll be honest, I've never been particularly drawn to opalite, especially when there are so many alternatives out there, but you may find it very beneficial. As it is a man-made glass, it can be quite cheaply found and is often used in jewellery, so there is no reason not to give it a go!

Picture
Pearl:

The pearl is associated with the element of water, the moon, beauty, luxury, and our emotions. It can encourage us to take the time out we need to tend to ourselves, whether that's curling up with a good book, or taking a short trip to a place you find comforting. It is great to use after a period of difficulty to help bring us back to ourselves, or when we are feeling vulnerable and just need a bit of time to ourselves.

Picture
Peridot:

I've heard peridot referred to as 'the release stone', as that is exactly what it aids us to do. Whether that is general negativity, lethargy, or harmful emotions, peridot can help us let go of it all. It is great for those who are trying to pick themselves back up after a set back, or who are embarking on a new stage in their life or personal journey of sorts. It is known as a stone of renewal, healing, rebirth, and purification.

Picture
Pyrite:

Pyrite is associated with our mental faculties; intelligence, memory, logic, and learning are all encouraged by pyrite. However, it is also known for stimulating creativity.

Pyrite is also said to be a good protector and can help shield us from negativity. In regards to healing, iron pyrite is said to help increase the oxygen supply to our blood which aids the circulatory system.

Picture
Quartz:

There are several different types of quartz, and each one has a slightly different meaning and association.

Angel Phantom Quartz: Allows us to let to go and experience the joy of the moment

Clear Quartz:
Clear quartz is great for amplifying energies, and so is useful in pretty much any magickal working. It is a very spiritual stone and can help us connect with our higher selves, align our chakras, and connect with the energies around us. You can also get dyed quartz, which is clear quartz which has been dyed a specific colour (sometimes called aura quartz or angel quartz). These can be used in colour magick; for example, carrying blue dyed quartz to promote creativity or communication, or yellow dyed quartz to bring happiness or promote abundance, etc.

Rose Quartz: Rose quartz is primarily associated with love, especially self love. It is soothing, comforting, and can help us when we are feeling low or vulnerable.

Rutilated Quartz: Rutilated quartz is an energiser, a confidence booster, and can intensify our emotions. It is also said to be good in helping us connect with our guides and our higher selves.

Smokey Quartz: Smokey quartz is good for grounding and protection, especially from negative energies.

Strawberry Quartz: Rest, relaxation, and reflection

Picture
Rhodochrosite:

Rhodochrosite is associated with rebirth in the sense that it can help us move on from that which has hurt us. It can bring up, and help us face, past trauma or aspects of ourselves which may be holding us back. This can be a difficult process, but rhodochrosite brings the energies needed to manage this reflection and transformation, and guides us through. It is also associated with peace, harmony, tolerance, compassion, and self-love, encouraging us to be kind to ourselves as well as others.

Picture
Rhodonite:

Rhodonite is said to be a very useful crystal for those who who have been going through a tough time. It can help ground us, and bring us the strength we need to see through difficult situations by keeping our energy levels stable. It brings a quiet and dignified self-confidence.
Picture
Ruby:

Ruby is often associated with royalty, and as such represents the finer things in life. It is often used in magick concerning wealth and prosperity, and can be used to attract money and good fortune.

It is also said to be a great crystal to promote focus on concentration, and is especially useful in helping us get the upper hand in debates and conflict in general. It promotes passion and enthusiasm, and can help inspire. For all the reasons mentioned in this paragraph, it makes a good stone for those who need to lead or who are in a place of authority.

Ruby is also associated with healing, integrity, happiness, and generosity. You can read more about ruby at my page here.
