My partner and I recently bought our first house (it needs a lot of work and veers between being exciting and extremely daunting), but things weren't always that easy. I learned the hard way that of you don't have much money, you probably won't get a great landlord. I've lived with people I absolutely hated, I've lived in a place where the ceiling caved in thanks to mould and destroyed many of my belongings, places that had mushrooms growing in the bathroom...it has been grim. But at least it was always a roof over my head (well, apart from the time that the roof fell in).
There are many quick and easy, every day things you can do to bring magick into the house. The topic I want to cover in this 'article' is floor washes.
Floor washes can be used to both dispel negative energies and invite positive energies in. Cleansing your home is a practice which can be done regularly or just as needed, but should especially be done if you have had lots of people passing through your home, especially toxic ones.
There are many different recipes that can be found online and in books, but floor washes are so simple it can be fun to experiment and come up with your own concoctions. All you need are water and herbs!
I have seen suggestion that you should only use holy water, or rain water, and never tap water. However, I have used tap water in my floor washes with perfect success. Using rain water or holy water may well give a boost to your wash which may be necessary if you need a strong cleanse, but I have found not entirely necessary.
To make a floor wash simple grab a metal pan and fill with water, add the herbs you want and simmer for 10 to 20 minutes. Leave it to cool down before using it to wash your floor.
When you wash your floor you need to mop from the back of the room towards the door if you wish to dispel negative energies. If you wish to bring positive energies in then make sure you mop from the doorway into the room.
You may want to charge the water before you use it, filling it with your intent. You may want to chant as you mop, or sing if you prefer; do whatever feels right for you. If I am banishing negative energies I usually like to chant something such as;
"Cleanse this place and make it clear, Only good can enter here"
Usually if I am inviting positive energies in I will just focus on building and spreading positive energy throughout the room as I mop.
One of my favourite recipes is using rose petals, lavender and a dash of sugar to bring peaceful, loving energies into the house. I use a simple wash of sage to dispel. There is no hard and fast rule as to what to use and what not to use, so have fun with it!
Not everyone has the type of floor that can easily washed; thick carpets for example can be impossible to simply wash. However, that doesn't mean there is nothing you can do.
I have plenty of carpeted floors in my house. For these, I instead make a mixture of herbs and salt, grinding them together with a mortar and pestle. You can use the same herbs as you would if you were going to make a floor wash. However, it is a perfectly dry mixture.
This can then be sprinkled on your carpets in the same way as if you were using the wash; towards the door and out for negative energies, inwards for positive. Leave it to absorb the energies (or emit them). Make sure you hoover them up if you are dispelling energies, and empty the hoover out into the trash immediately. If you are bringing positive energies in, you may want to leave it down for a while longer and hoover them later. This mixture can also be created in advance and stored in a glass jar until you need it.
There is plenty of information on various different herbs readily available, including several articles in this blog so give it a try!
