Working With The Tides

In the same way in which we work with the different phases of the moon or the sun, we can work with the tides to aid us in our magicks. The ebb and flow of the tides are so strong that it has been observed that marine animals that have been removed from the ocean will still go about their 'day to day business' as if they were still living in the ocean.

The moon places an important part in the regultion of the tides, and this is one of the main reasons that lunar magick is often seen as a core part of water magick. However, many people don't understand the importance that the sun has in this process, and so I recommend working with a balance of solar and lunar energies.

It is important to note that the tides don't all rise and fall at the same time across the world, or even the country you are in. As such, if you want to work with the tides, then work with the nearest source to you. For those who don't live by the sea, see if there are any rivers or such in your area that connect to the sea, and see if you can find out their high and low tide times. The BBC website gives great information about high and low tides for seas and rivers around the UK. Type in your town, and it will show you the nearest rivers to you, as well as a day-by-day look at their high and low tides. You can use this to work out the most suitable time to perform your magick if you wish to use the energy of the tides: www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast-and-sea/tide-tables

With such close ties to the lunar cycle, the tides and their rising and falling very much mimic the moons phases in regards to their associations.

Rising Tide: As the tide is rising, it marks a great time to perform magick to bring things towards you, to manifest and grow.

High Tide: High tide is the pinnacle of this energy. Use the high tide when you need to work magick to manifest something quickly, and to bring extra energy to your rituals.

Falling Tide: This is a time of banishing, and getting rid of that which doesn't serve you anymore, bad habits, etc. It can also be a time for shadow work and self reflection.

Low Tide: Low tide is a time of peace and stillness; meditation, divination, and reflection are ideal activities during this period.

For an extra boost, try to conincide these with the relevant moon phases; waxing moon and rising tide, full moon and high tide, waning moon and falling tide, and dark of the moon/new moon for low tide.
