One of the main questions I see asked by those new to witchcraft is how to find their deity; or, they feel that a deity may be reaching out to them and want to know who it is.
Working with a specific deity is not a requirement in witchcraft. In fact, there is no requirement to work with a deity full stop if you don't want to - you can perform magick without believing in Gods or Goddesses.
For beginners, I would recommend working with 'God' or Goddess to start with, until you have practiced a bit and gained more knowledge and experience. One of the most widely accepted beliefs is the 'diamond theory'; think of divinity like a diamond. All of the different deities from all of the different pantheons are just facets, or faces, of this one diamond. There is one divine being (or universal energy, or spirit), and the individual Gods and Goddesses are just different representations of that one power.
This is a meditation I used when I was first starting out in witchcraft, and have since used it to meet specific deities.
Performing this meditation I was met by a Goddess dressed in white and wearing a half-moon crown upon her head. She had a motherly vibe about her, a very feminine lunar energy. I realised that this deity was Selene, the Greek Goddess of the moon. Even though I tend tend to work almost exclusively with Celtic deities these days, I still honour Selene at the full moon.

Begin your meditation however you feel comfortable; chanting, visualization exercises, etc.
Now, imagine you are stood in an empty field, with the grass beneath your feet...and suddenly you are falling through the earth. See yourself pass through the dirt, roots, molten lava, straight through the centre of the earth, until suddenly you hit the bottom.
You are now in a cave. The cave is empty, apart from a table standing in-front of you. You walk to the table and see that that too is empty; except for a blank sheet of parchment and a feathered quill. You pick up the quill and on the parchment write your name. Then, you put the quill down, knock on the table three times and wait. Before your eyes, where once was empty, you see the vision of your God or Goddess.
Make a note of what they look like, what they are dressed in, what they say and the energy you feel off them, as this will help you to identify the deity later on if they choose not to tell you their name.
