Getting To Know Your Pendulum

Those of you who have followed me for a while will know that I don't really get on with pendulums. Tarot, lithomancy, oracle cards, lithomancy, scrying - all of these I can work with successfully, but the pendulum is one I have always struggled with. However, I recently bought a new pendulum and over the past few days I've had much more success with it! It's an amazonite pendulum, and not only is amazonite one of my favourite crystals, but it represents truth, clarity, and understanding our own thoughts and emotions amongst other associations, and so is the perfect crystal for pendulum work.

Like most divination tools, it becomes stronger and more accurate the more attune ourselves with it (or it to us), and I have found this to be more true of the pendulum than any other divination tool. So, what can you do to aid in this process and ensure a harmonious relationship between you and your pendulum? Below are five ideas to get you started; this is by no means an exhaustive list, and you may find that some of these options work for you and some don't. As always, trust in your intuition and do whatever feels right for you.

Picture
  • Meditate with your pendulum and try to connect with it. Try and tune in to its vibrational frequency, and ask it to tell you about itself. You may get flashes of images or symbols that are relevant, or even just a 'feeling', but this will give you a bit more insight into your pendulum itself

  • Carry it around with you; keep it in your pocket, sleep with it under your pillow, and let it attune to your every-day, subtle energy. This works very well with the meditation aspect; whilst meditation allows you to attune to your pendulum, whilst this approach allows your pendulum to attune to you

  • Cleanse it with moonwater. Moon water is ideal for cleansing any divination tool as the moon is associated with mystery, divination, and intuition. Simply get a cloth or use your fingers, and wipe the moon water over your pendulum as if you were cleaning it, whilst visualising a white light engulfing your pendulum and removing any negative energy. You may wish to say something along the lines of 'I cleanse this pendulum of all negativity in this world and in the astral. May this pendulum be blessed with the power of the Goddess'

  • Make your own pendulum board! You can also buy one, but I love any excuse to be creative and so prefer to make my own. This also helps embue the tool with your energy, again making it stronger. Most pendulum boards have the options 'yes', 'no', 'maybe' and 'unsure' spaced across the board as a bare minimum, but there are plenty of examples online. So take a look and create your own makeshift one to have a play around with

  • Play some games with your pendulum! For example, take three pieces of paper and draw a circle on one, and squares on the other. Swing your pendulum over each one and ask it to show you which one has the circle. May attention to the behaviour of your pendulum; does it swing in a different direction when it swings over the circle? Or does it swing in the same way but tells your intuition that this is the piece with the circle? Again, just play around with it and get to know your pendulum and how it works

Again, these are just a few simple ideas to help you on your journey when acquiring a new pendulum, but the most important thing is to have fun! The pendulum is a great tool for helping us understand ourselves as well as divining the future, and so it will react to our moods which is why making sure you are having fun with it is such an important element to pendulum dowsing!
